(6) Short Kut with Amrita Rao, Akshaye Khanna, Arshad Warsi with special appearance by Sanjay Dutt. Directed by Neeraj Vora. Walmer Park. Reviewed by Mogan Segadavan
SHEKHAR (Akshaye Khanna), an aspiring assistant director, is struggling to make it big in the film industry. Working on the same lines is Chandu (Arshad Warsi), a wannabe junior artist.
While Shekhar is an extremely capable and confident person, Chandu is nothing short of a joker, who thinks himself to be the next superstar-in-the-making. He finally produces a prized script but Chandu manages to steal it and finds himself on the road to super stardom.
Hurt and miserable, Shekhar plunges into depression and soon, his wife Mansi (Amrita Rao), who gave up her acting career to marry him, walks out. Eventually Shekhar is back on his feet and ready to settle the score with Chandu with the help of a motley crew who stake everything they have to finance his movie.
Touted as a comedy Short Kut, which is a translation of a South Indian movie, fails to live up to expectations unless one enjoys bumbling idiots tripping over each other. Excessive use of cliches makes the movie irritating at times although the theme – there are no short cuts in life – makes it acceptable.
Short Kut is saved by the stunning Amrita Rao and the bevy of leggy Bollywood dancers. The songs may not rocket to the top of the charts but are enjoyable.
