THE Chevrolet Warriors face a searching test of their bowling depth when their SuperSport Series cricket fixture gets under way at Sahara Oval St George‘s today (10am).

The Warriors will be without five of their frontline bowlers. Robin Peterson, Johan Botha and Wayne Parnell have joined up with the national squad for the Standard Bank Pro20 match against Australia tomorrow, while Lonwabo Tsotsobe and Sinethemba Mjekula are both injured. To make matters worse, back-up seamer Lyall Meyer has developed a foot stress fracture. Mario Olivier and Andrew Birch have been called upon to assist Rusty Theron with the fast bowling duties.

Olivier‘s career has followed a strange path after taking 10 wickets in an innings against the Eagles early last season. He played a handful of games after achieving that rare feat, but has not played at franchise level this season.

Birch makes his debut, as does Border allrounder Darryl Brown, and both will be looking to stake a claim for next season.

Ashwell Prince has been in tremendous form with the bat and he underlined his class with a superb 150 against Australia at Newlands. He is bound to be an obstacle for the Dolphins in a match with nothing more than pride at stake.

The squads are:

WARRIORS: Jon-Jon Smuts, Craig Thyssen, Arno Jacobs, Zander de Bruyn, Ashwell Prince, Davy Jacobs (capt), Riaan Jeggels, Justin Kreusch, Darryl Brown, Andrew Birch, Mario Olivier, Rusty Theron.

DOLPHINS: Ahmed Amla (capt), Imraan Khan, Cameron Delport, David Miller, Jon Kent, HD Ackerman, Daryn Smit, Kyle Abbott, Vyash Gobind, Ugasen Govender, Saidi Mlongo, Craig Woods.
